Associate Buyer

Job Summary:

Through Safety first, be responsible for supporting purchasing activities to achieve cost targets, and working capital targets for assigned commodity groups and strategic projects, and management of the supply base. Requires a high degree of professional integrity, ethics, and confidentiality.


Responsibilities:

  • Supports the strategic purchasing activities of others.
  • Develops an understanding of the capabilities of existing supply base to facilitate the day-to-day management of commercial matters.
  • Participates in cross-functional and continuous improvement activities.
  • Data gathering, analysis, and report preparation as required.
  • Execution of assigned purchasing projects.
  • Prepare purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
  • Daily purchasing and material expediting, when needed.
  • Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
  • Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids.
  • Recognizes and initiates changes when business conditions warrant it.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of current laws and regulations that affect the business environment.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Respects plant and company ethical values and policies in dealing with suppliers and customers.
  • Negotiates innovative solutions to deal with problems and opportunities.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Entrepreneurial Passion.
  • Self-driven and eager to improve relationships and processes.
  • General understanding of plant equipment and operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred; Associates degree and/or Certification in Supply Chain Management considered.
  • Requires 2+ years of experience in purchasing area.
  • Must be passionate toward implementing and enhancing the growth and development across all areas of responsibility.
  • Absolute commitment to EHS.
  • Commitment to best practices developed by Continuous Improvement.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills especially Excel required.
  • SAP experience preferred, working knowledge of ERP systems required.
  • Relates well to people at all levels of the organization
  • Written communication is clear and concise
  • Presentation skills - speaks with confidence in a variety of settings - one on one, small and large groups.  Can get messages across that have desired effect.
  • Deals effectively with change.  Keeps composure when handling risk and uncertainty.
  • Manages time effectively; establishes clear priorities.
  • Persuasive - able to sell his/her ideas to others.
  • Maintains stable performance under stress; does not become defensive or irritated when stressed.
  • Intuitive - able to bring together knowledge and experience to create new insights.
  • Requires the ability to identify and resolve both short and long-term problems.
