Automation Engineer- Sheet Finishing

Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer will apply the principles of Electrical Engineering, physics and materials science for the practical application of design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of manufacturing systems for the optimization of equipment, procedures, and departmental budgets. He/She will complement the engineering group in maintaining the highest standards for management of engineering functions to maintain and improve existing infrastructure and evolve with continuous improvement in the most effective ways practical. Align with the organization’s strategic objectives in the areas of environmental health and safety, asset capability, quality and production.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the engineering group to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new installations meets and exceeds performance expectations.
  • Reviews and manages Vendor specifications and compiles technical evaluations to support Procurement
  • Ensure compliance to national safety and engineering standards
  • Provides the site with LOTO coordination supervision
  • Provide the site with ARC Flash compliance coordination and supervision
  • Participates in the final check-out of new installations. This includes factory and site acceptance testing that will assure adherence to functional specifications.
  • Ensure that condition and documentation preservation is performed
  • Participate in system functional performance testing
  • Identify system manual requirements and insure all documents are created
  • Experienced with Reliability Centered Maintenance methods (development of Work Instructions, support Reliability Engineer and Techs, continuous improvement of equipment performance)
  • Experienced with PLC Control and Safety management systems (able to read/ follow schematics, implement corrective actions, a solid understanding of the theories and good practices)
  • Document all baseline reading, settings, positions and store for future reference
  • Capable of executing small to mid-size projects from inception to handover
  • Develop clear understanding of equipment intended function, communicate this understanding to engineering and maintenance team
  • Contractor coordination and contract management (writing Scope of Work, General Work Permits, Establishing Lock Out Tagout procedures, Reviewing Job Hazard Analysis, scheduling the work etc)
  • Capable of performing Power Systems, Controls, wiring and Equipment design
  • Must be able to supervise supplier interventions during installation, challenge solutions, and refine needs
  • Provides technical support for the Engineering Department for Power, control and data networking systems
  • Develop electrical, instrumentation, and drive systems planned maintenance activities
  • Assist in training of other team members on electrical standards and processes.
  • Defines, designs, develops, monitors and refines an asset maintenance plan
  • Participate in process optimization
  • Provides input to a risk management plan to anticipate risks that adversely impact operations
  • Analyze and diagnose equipment breakdowns, develop long term solutions or mitigation plans
  • Provides technical support to production, maintenance management and technical personnel
  • Utilize predictive and condition monitoring techniques to monitor equipment health.
  • Estimation of maintenance costs and evaluation of alternatives
  • Forecasting of spare parts for electrical/controls equipment
  • Support Procurement activities to source suppliers for various services and spare parts
  • Write technical specifications for repairs (quality control) and procurement
  • Establish replacement/rebuild programs (including vendor assessments)
  • Application of scheduling and project management principles
  • Assess required tools and skills required for efficient maintenance of equipment
  • Assessing and reporting safety hazards associated with electrical low- to medium-voltage equipment.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience dealing with Low- to Medium-Voltage electrical distribution systems, AC& DC motors, process instrumentation preferably in an aluminum (highly preferred), continuous rolling mill / process line type environment
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (preferred)
  • Electronics and Controls experience a plus
  • Ability to read Schematics, Layouts, Equipment and site Drawings, mark up and make corrections as needed (AutoCAD, 3D Inventor are a plus but not required)
  • Industrial Maintenance experience
  • Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis experience
  • Must be familiar with National Electrical Codes, including NFPA 70E
  • Must be proficient MS Excel, MS Word and familiar with MS Project
  • Perform functional analysis and verification
  • Exceptional team working skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to lead effective meetings
  • Knowledge of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Knowledge of Root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Autonomous and self-starter
  • Highly organized, systematic, and precise
  • Ability to work in group in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to work effectively with operators, maintenance technicians, other engineers, managers
  • Analytical understanding and critical thinking are of primary importance
  • Ability to support 24x7 production operations, including after-hours call in support

Constellium Muscle Shoals is a major aluminum sheet supplier for the packaging and automotive markets. The plant has ~1,200 employees and more than 100 acres under room, including five casting units, hot and cold rolling mills, and a slitting and finishing center. Muscle Shoals produces aluminum sheet for use in all three components of beverage cans (body stock, coated end stock, tab stock) and has the capacity to produce over 1 billion pounds per year of finished aluminum coils. The plant also produces aluminum automotive coils to be processed at our CALP line in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
