Health and Safety Systems SME
Primary Purpose
- The Health/Safety/Security Systems (HSS) Subject Matter Expert (SME), concentrates on overall technical and operational effectiveness of capabilities in coordination with leaders at Muscle Shoals and Bowling Green.
- HSS SME is responsible for providing recommendations on continuous improvement of the processes and architectures supporting the overall Health, Safety & Security operational activities including, but not limited to: analysis, program development, program improvement, risk identification, corrective action implementation, and metric/data collection and analysis.
- Recommends, develops, and implements appropriate programs and activities that enhance the safety and health of employees, and contractors, as well as minimizes Constellium’s exposure to loss.
- Ensures the effective operations of Muscle Shoals and Bowling Green site HSS systems, providing effective risk mitigation capabilities, usable and effective reports that address overall situational analysis and improvement opportunities.
- This individual works to maximize the use of new and existing tools to correlate information and synthesize data into usable and actionable events.
Responsibilities
- The Safety Systems SME is responsible for the implementation and standardization of site health and safety systems and programs
- Aid with development and implementation of specific safety policies and programs at Muscle Shoals and Bowling Green.
- Aligns safety and health systems and synergies between Muscle Shoals and Bowling Green locations.
- Audit site HSS systems detect gaps or improvement opportunities and recommend appropriate corrective action to eliminate or reduce the hazards.
- Effectively researches and benchmarks EHS regulations and best practices and recommend programs, and systems to improve performance.
- Compiles, analyzes and interprets statistical data related to near-miss, incidents, injuries, and illnesses to use in system implementation and improvement.
- Responsible for maintaining site ISO 45001/14001 system compliance and certification.
- Acts as oversight of health and safety programs including, but not limited to, PSM, Electrical Safety, LOTO, ISO
- Responsible for the implementation, standardization, and auditing of site Lock, Tag, Verify program and components
- Responsible for maintaining compliance with all requirements set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regarding required safety programs.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of EHS best practices and principles through training and certifications.
- Responsible for training development and oversight of certified trainers for HSS systems.
- Oversee committees, corrective action data and closure, and external/internal audits for assigned HSS Systems.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience requirements:
- B.S. in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field is preferred. However, non-degreed candidates will be considered if they have an equivalent amount of professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience supporting Health, Safety, and Security programs
- Experience working in a heavy manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated ability to organize and/or conduct training
- Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls of workplace hazards and risk
- Ability to interact with and influence labor force and related field activities in enforcement of safety codes and behavior-based safety processes.
- Ability to schedule and balance time with minimal daily direction.
- Shows the initiative/self-drive needed to seek out and manage company risks.
- Good communication, high level of autonomy, collaboration and interpersonal skills are equally important.
- Perform, understand and communicate detailed information analysis and evaluation, and have a good track record working effectively within a team-based environment
- Ability to work in cross-organizational and multi-functional teams.
- Proficiency in computer programs / software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, Power Point, SAP, Teams, SharePoint and Learning Management System.

Constellium Muscle Shoals is an aluminum manufacturing plant based in Alabama with over 1,200 employees. With its widest strip mill in the USA and a world-class recycling center, the site represents one of the largest sites within Constellium and is a world-class can recycling center, with the capacity to recycle nearly 20 billion cans per year. Muscle Shoals’ main product is aluminum can sheet for the packaging industry, particularly for beverage containers. It manufactures sheet used in all three components of an aluminum can, namely body stock, coated end stock and tab stock. Additionally, Muscle Shoals’ supplies Auto Body Sheet substrate to Constellium’s Bowling Green, Kentucky, site.
