Job Summary

Constellium’s C-TEC facility in Plymouth, Michigan (USA) is recruiting a new Materials Testing Technician, to support the development and qualification of advanced aluminum wrought products. This hands-on lab role involves preparing samples, performing mechanical and metallographic tests, and supporting process and customer development work. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering staff to generate critical test data for internal R&D and external customer programs.  This is a full-time, on-site position in Plymouth, Michigan. No travel is required.

Responsibilities 

  • Comply with Environmental, Health, and Safety rules, particularly while working in the laboratories, workshops, and factories.
  • Prepare samples from aluminum sheet using shear and CNC equipment.
  • Perform tensile and bending tests on samples.
  • Prepare samples for metallographic analysis via mounting and mechanical polishing.
  • Assist with corrosion and adhesive bonding tests.

Qualifications 

  • Associate’s degree in Materials Testing, Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering Technology, Applied Science, or a related field; relevant lab experience may substitute for formal education.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in a mechanical testing lab. Experience with Instron, Zwick/Roell, or similar tensile test equipment and with metallographic sample preparation preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in the laboratory with minimal supervision while producing reliable and accurate test data. 
  • High level of attention to detail and standards for testing
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in a cross-functional, multicultural team.
  • Hands-on experience in corrosion and surface-related testing, as well as safe handling of chemicals, is a plus.
  • Basic machine shop skills or comfort with mechanical tools and workshop safety procedures are an advantage.
  • Salary range: $59,000k- $66,000k + 6% Bonus
