Communications & Public Relations Manager
Job Summary:
The Communications & Public Relations Manager is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies to enhance the visibility and reputation of the organization. This role involves managing both internal and external communications, compelling content, and ensuring all communications align with the company's brand and goals. A successful Communications Manager will collaborate with various departments to ensure cohesive messaging and will be adept at handling public relations challenges swiftly and effectively. As the primary site lead for public relations, community outreach, and stakeholder engagement, the Communications Manager serves as the key liaison to local communities and local, state, and federal stakeholders. The role ensures clear, accurate, and timely messaging that reflects operational realities, supports union‑management collaboration, and aligns with corporate, legal, and regulatory requirements in a highly regulated aluminum manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute internal communication strategies that support local workforce, including hourly and salaried employees.
- Partner closely with HR and labor relations teams to ensure communications align with collective bargaining agreements and reinforce constructive labor‑management relationships.
- Prepare clear, consistent messaging related to workforce initiatives, safety, operational changes, benefit programs, and organizational updates.
- Draft talking points, FAQs, and materials to support leaders during leadership meetings, town halls, shift meetings, and employee forums.
- Serve as the site’s primary communications lead for external audiences, including media, community groups, and public stakeholders.
- Manage the company brand by overseeing all company branding and logo use to ensure consistency
- Design and publish quarterly newsletter and create content for all company communication channels (Connect, TVs, buzz boards, social media, etc)
- Draft and manage press releases, public statements, presentations, and digital content related to site operations and initiatives.
- Coordinate with corporate communications to ensure alignment with enterprise messaging, brand standards, and legal guidance.
- Support site leadership with message preparation for external interviews, public meetings, and briefings.
- Lead all community outreach and engagement efforts for the site, including open houses, facility tours, public forums, education partnerships, and local events.
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, residents, schools, nonprofit organizations, and workforce development partners.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for community inquiries, concerns, and feedback related to aluminum manufacturing operations.
- Track and report on communication effectiveness, including employee feedback, media coverage, and community sentiment.
- Identify opportunities to improve workforce engagement, labor‑management communication, and community trust.
- Act as the site liaison to local, state, and federal government entities, including elected officials and regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Human Resources, Public Affairs, or a related field, required
- 5–8 years of experience in communications, public relations, community relations, or a related role, preferably in aluminum, metals, mining, energy, or heavy manufacturing, strongly preferred
- Experience working in a unionized or labor‑intensive environment, with demonstrated sensitivity to labor relations dynamics, preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex operational or technical topics into clear, accessible language, required
- Experience supporting or partnering with HR, labor relations, or employee engagement initiatives.
- Demonstrated capability to engage confidently with media, community stakeholders, and government representatives.
- Familiarity with safety, environmental, and regulatory considerations typical of aluminum manufacturing operations
