Metal & Inventory Manager
Job Summary:
The Metal & Inventory Manager’s primary purpose is to strategically manage the procurement and inflow of raw materials (primary metal, rolling ingot, scrap, RSI) into the plant in a way that:
- insures on-time casting and hot rolling of customer orders
- manages the risk of material supply shortages for Casting and Hot Rolling departments
- controls plant-wide metal inventory (working capital minimization)
- minimizes metal costs by minimizing the usage of primary metal and maximizing the usage of 3rd party scrap.
This position is also responsible for continuously monitoring and managing plant-wide metal inventory levels, while leading and/or coordinating all inventory-related activities which fall within the Supply Chain group.
The Metal & Inventory Manager is a highly visible position, with interaction with all levels of plant leadership, including the plant CEO, CFO, operations leadership teams, as well as Constellium’s procurement organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Generate long-range and near-term forecasts of raw material needs for casting production based on the monthly Ravenswood S&OP, sales forecasts and casting schedules. The raw materials to be forecasted include primary metal (by grade), scrap & RSI (by alloy), as well as alloying elements.
- Insure the timely and cost-optimized procurement of raw materials in coordination with the Constellium Central Metal Procurement group (CMP).
- Monitor actual raw material inventory inflows and inventory levels vs. plan and insure timely follow-up with suppliers and CMP to address deviations.
- Own the supply contracts and relationships with 3rd party secondary remelters responsible for processing of dross and scrap generated by Constellium Ravenswood or procured from 3rd parties..
- Monitor and actively manage plant-wide metal inventory levels on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Lead the annual plant-wide physical inventory process and insure the timely execution of quarterly partial inventories.
- Provide strategic direction and day-to-day leadership for the Metal Flow Coordinator and assigned temporary employees handling metal delivery scheduling, trucker & vendor interactions, rail logistics and receiving documentation.
- Ability to serve as backup for the Metal Flow Coordinator and assigned temporary employees.
- Drive metal management and delivery scheduling process improvements using Continuous Improvement methodologies.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business or Finance.
- 5-10 years relevant work experience (raw materials procurement, metal trading, supplier management, supply chain management, financial controlling) in an industrial setting.
- Advanced spreadsheet development and data analysis capabilities using Microsoft Excel (or similar).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence across organizational levels.
- Proven process-driven and continuous improvement-oriented problem-solving capabilities.
STRONGLY PREFERRED
- Prior people‑leadership experience, including direct supervision of employees.
- Demonstrated negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills in cross‑functional or supplier‑facing environments.
PREFERRED
- Metal industry experience.
- Relevant experience with SAP S/4 Hana.
