Production Planner

Category:  Supply Chain

Job Summary:

The Production Planner’s primary purpose is the creation, planning and maintenance of all of the product- and production data required by the plant’s ERP system (SAP) to allow the sales team to enter individual customer’s sales orders, and to allow the operations team to produce these orders.

In this context, the Production Planner is responsible for two vitally important sets of data in SAP: (1) the Material Masters (i.e. detailed product descriptions) needed by the sales team to enter orders, and (2) Production Orders (i.e. the written recipe needed to make each product being ordered). Without this information, no orders can be entered, and nothing can be produced.

In addition to the above, the Production Planner is also responsible for managing in SAP all the special processes that exist for non-standard production events in the coil production flow. These include product- and production trials (“pink sheets”), zero lots, diversions, salvage applications, set-outs, and customer samples.

Responsibilities

  • Creation of Material Masters in SAP so that coil sales orders can be planned and PPOs (production orders) can be launched for production. Coordinates with the inside sales group to confirm all information on the sales order is correct and accurate. The Material Master is created from the sales order and includes information such as: product dimensions, tolerances, testing specifications, packaging requirements, customer-specific date.
  • Maintenance of Material Masters in SAP anytime there is a technical- or production-related change to coil products. At the time of a change (for example a MET practice update), all affected Material Masters must be reviewed and updated to reflect the current information as provided by technical- and or production personnel.
  • Creation and maintenance of Bills of Material, Routings, Production Versions and Production Orders (PPOs) in SAP for all coil products.
  • PPO creation for non-standard production orders such as customer- and production trials, customer samples, as well as coil products outside standard plant production capabilities (“pink sheets”).
  • Management of the SAP processes related to non-conforming WIP and finished goods (MCRs, zero lots, diversions, salvage applications, set-outs, scrap and MRR) - in close coordination with the affected APUs and shop floor personnel.
  • Updating and management of SAP tables for the coil production process as required.
  • Daily monitoring and clearing of exception reports related to the customer order planning- and production process in the Ravenswood SAP system.
  • Coordinate trial production activities with technical- and quality departments.
  • Participate in and/or lead improvement processes as they relate to the production planning process.
  • Document SAP production planning processes and train backups as required.
  • Other activities and responsibilities as needed and determined by supervisor or Ravenswood leadership.
