Our Research and Technology Center, C-TEC Constellium Technology Center, employs about 250 people. It is located near Grenoble, France, in a quite dense scientific area. In this context, we are looking for a Senior R&T Engineer to join our alloy design and development team. Your role will be to identify, develop and validate innovative metallurgical solutions for aerospace, transportation and defense applications.  The key focus of this position is to develop and strengthen expertise related to mechanical properties, with emphasis on fracture mechanics and damage tolerance

You will actively contribute to idea generation, project definition and the technical follow up of R&T projects. The position involves working within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural Research & Technology team, with direct interactions mainly with Constellium’s Aerospace & transportation Business Unit as well as with external customers (aircraft / rocket / space vehicle manufacturers, defense actors etc.).

Your main responsibilities:

Your mission will include the following aspects:

Technical:

 

  • Identify opportunities for new product development or incremental improvements through discussions with internal and external materials experts, participation in conferences or trade fairs, ideation workshops, patent searches.
  • Translate identified opportunities into viable R&T projects by clarifying technical objectives and developing structured action plans, including C-TEC prototyping and testing supervision with laboratories interactions as well as industrial trials follow-up by Constellium sites.
  • Bring strong metallurgical expertise (links between process-microstructure-properties), with specific focus on fatigue and fracture toughness.
  • Share acquired knowledge through clear and high-quality technical reporting.
  • Support patent filings whenever relevant. 

 

 

EHS and security:

 

  • Contribute to C-TEC’s zero accident policy by leading by example and taking all the appropriate actions to ensure work is performed in total safety (full compliance to all EHS rules, LSTs, incident / near miss reporting etc…);
  • Contribute to Constellium’s environmental objectives, in particular via the reduction in GHG emission through increasing the recycled content of our products.

Your Profile:

Master’s degree and/or PhD in Materials Science, with strong focus on metallurgy and mechanics.

Solid knowledge in fracture mechanics, both on the experimental side (tensile, fracture toughness, fatigue tests, etc.) and the modeling side (material behavior, FEM).

Practical and theoretical knowledge of metal processing technologies, preferably involving aluminium alloys.

Familiarity with design practices and methodologies commonly used by aerospace customers is considered a valuable asset.

Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience in metallurgy and mechanics.

Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment, ideally supported by international academic or professional experience.

Ability to explain complex concepts simply, with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Open-minded, innovative, and comfortable working across boundaries of traditional scientific or technical disciplines.

Result‑driven, proactive, and able to demonstrate perseverance in driving new product or process development.

Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory. Fluency in French is desirable. German or any other foreign language would be an additional asset.
